Proper name [Persian]

IPA: [sɪmˈbɒːd] [Classical-Persian], [sæmˈbɒːd] [Classical-Persian], [sʊmˈbɒːd] [Classical-Persian], [sɪmˈbɒːð] [Classical-Persian], [sæmˈbɒːð] [Classical-Persian], [sʊmˈbɒːð] [Classical-Persian], [sendˈbɒːd] [Iran], [sændˈbɒːd] [Iran], [sæmˈbɒːd] [Iran] Forms: sendbâd [romanization], sandbâd [romanization]
Etymology: From Middle Persian, possibly borrowed from Sanskrit सिद्धपथ (siddhapatha, “path of the Blessed”). According to folk etymology, from سند (send) + باد (bâd), whence also the Arabic هِنْدِبَاد (hindibād). Arabic سِنْدِبَاد (sindibād) is a Middle Persian borrowing. Akin to Old Armenian Սմբատ (Smbat), Ancient Greek Συντίπας (Suntípas) (Iranian borrowing via Classical Syriac?). The sense "cognitive faculty" was coined by Azar Kayvan's cult (died early 17th century), according to Dehkhoda. Arabic سِنْدِبَاد (sindibād) is a Middle Persian borrowing.\nAkin to Old Armenian Սմբատ (Smbat), Ancient Greek Συντίπας (Suntípas) (Iranian borrowing via Classical Syriac?).\nThe sense \"cognitive faculty\" was coined by Azar Kayvan's cult (died early 17th century), according to Dehkhoda.",
