Noun [Arabic]

IPA: /ʔam.ðir.jaːn/
Etymology: Unknown, by the ending like in Classical Persian رازیانه (rāziyāna) or بادیان (bādiyān) potentially a Middle Persian term that died out before Classical Persian, or, given that it is related by the Arabic pharmacognosists either a “Greek” or “Nabataean” word and to occur much in Damascus, from Classical Syriac ܡܕܰܪܝܳܢܳܐ (mḏarryānā, literally “scattering; winnowing”), as the Middle Aramaic name of the plant is completely unattested.
