Particle

IPA: [d͡ʒiː] [Dari, formal], [d͡ʒiː] [Dari, formal], [d͡ʒiː] [Kabuli], [d͡ʒi] (note: Hazaragi) Forms: jī [romanization]
Etymology: Borrowed from Hindustani جی / जी (jī). According to قاموس کبوتر افغانستان (kāmūs kabūtar afğānistān) the suffix gained prominence in Kabul due to the large volume of Pakistani and Indian service workers in the 1970s. Because of this, the suffix is only used after the titles of certain professions (e.g. حکیم (hakīm, “doctor”) > حکیمجی (hakīm-jī)) and is almost never used elsewhere.
